Polo Beach
Parking & Access
Parking is plentiful at Polo Beach. The park is frequented by the locals...usually on the weekend. So finding a parking space should be fairly easy. It also a densely shaded parking lot so that makes it nicer in the Summer months when it's much hotter.
Fun in the Park!
Polo Beach Park is a linear park that is grassy and sheltered from the sun with lots of shade trees. There are numerous picnic tables with adjacent BBQs for grilling your favorite local fresh catch of the day. The restrooms are closer to the beach entry. A foot path connects the parking area directly to the beach access.
Food and Drinks
This is the perfect beach to enjoy both the ocean activities coupled with an awesome park to grill out and have a family picnic. Great place to prepare a meal and create a lifetime of family memories. If you would rather be pampered you can always walk up the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort and enjoy lunch at Kō, AMA Bar and Grill or Makena Market + Cafe. Fairmont food quality is the finest found anywhere on Maui. You might even see a Hollywood star while eating at the Fairmont. It's popular among the lifestyles of the rich and famous...if you are into that. Either way there are many dining options available.
Polo Beach Snorkeling
Okay here is some insight to the best snorkeling in south Maui at Polo Beach for 2022. It's not actually at Polo Beach. If you really want to see a variety of marine life...turtles, eels, white spotted Manta Ray, and other sea creatures then you must be bold and swim out and around Wailea Point (see map with annotation). This is the north end of Polo Beach. For whatever reason, not many tourists know this but some of the best snorkeling in south Maui is in and around Wailea Point. Sure, it's a bit more swimming but you will be impressed by what you see. Be sure to swim up and down and parallel to the lava flows that are under water. But hey, don't take our word for it...go check it out and give us a comment on what you see. It will be worth your time.
Safety and Ocean Conditions
The ocean and shore break at Polo Beach is typically very gentle and calm. Just take a few minutes to observe the waves before entering the ocean. There are no lifeguards at this beach. How about the jellyfish? Yes, there can be jellyfish at various times of the year. Lastly, just read the warning signs and be safe. "If in doubt - don't go out!". Here is one last tip: Fairmont Kea Lani beach staff are at this beach catering to their hotel guests. Local residents on Maui are very friendly. Feel free to ask the Kea Lani staff about the current beach and ocean conditions...they will give you the inside scoop!
