A hui hou, and Welcome to Maui’s North Shore…
Arrive in Paia in Time for Breakfast
When planning a full-day outing to Historic Paia Town, we suggest that you plan to arrive early. You don’t have to be there at the crack of dawn, but perhaps mid-morning to enjoy breakfast or brunch at one of Paia’s most popular restaurants.
In Paia Town, there are many options for early morning grinds. Paia Bowls is a great spot for a light and healthy meal, including a variety of acai bowls, smoothies, and fresh-pressed juices. If you’re looking for a coffee shop vibe, check out Paia Bay Coffee Bar. The environment is like a tropical garden cafe, and they have an excellent array of breakfast items like egg breakfasts, a variety of yummy bagels, and more. Charley’s Restaurant and Saloon is popular throughout the day, and breakfast hours feature a do-it-yourself Bloody Mary Bar.
Take a Walk up Baldwin to the Paia Stupa
After breakfast, take a short walk up Baldwin Avenue to the Maui Dharma Center. Located outside of this Tibetan Buddhist sanctuary is the Great Paia Lha Bab Peace Stupa. It’s a peaceful little secret spot that really invokes a real sense of positive Maui vibes.
The stupa is dedicated to the late Lama Tenzin (1938-2001), the first full-time resident teacher of the Maui Dharma Center. The stupa was completed in the Spring of 2007 – at the same time that His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Maui. During his visit, His Holiness blessed the stupa. This is why some Maui residents refer to this locale as ‘The Dalai Lama Stupa.’
Upon arriving at the Paia Stupa, enter the temple and just look around you. The walls are adorned with gorgeous Tibetan Buddhist style paintings. Follow the rules on the signage, hold the ring, and slowly walk around the bell while being invited to a place of inner harmony and reflection. If you feel inclined, leave a donation.

Stroll Thru Paia & Visit the Shops
After visiting the Maui Stupa, you’ll certainly feel inspired to check out all of the little treasures found in Paia Town. Paia is known for its bohemian vibes, so check out all the gift shops, surf shops, clothing stores, and art galleries. There’s undoubtedly something for everyone. If you’re able to plan ahead, consider booking a massage at North Shore Chiropractic or head to a yoga class at MAHA Yoga.
Popular Paia art galleries include Maui Hands, Maui Crafts Guild, and the Paia Contemporary Gallery. For women’s and men’s clothing and a selection of Maui made items, head to Simmer Hawaii and Alice in Hulaland. For unique gifts and souvenirs, go to Indigo Paia, Biasa Rose, and Wings Hawaii.
No matter what you find in Paia, it will definitely be fun and memorable. Visitors and residents love Paia Town for its friendly vibes, interesting stories, and everyday life conveniences. Enjoy traveling through the hub of Maui’s North Shore!
